Cairo

is Egypt's fascinating capital, with a population of over 16 millions. Its original Arabic name Al Qahirah means ' the victorious'. It is a city of great contrasts and a diverse history.

There are the Pharaonic pyramids and there is the medieval Islamic city with its Khan El Khalili bazaar and Sultan Hassan mosque.

Alongside its glorious past, Cairo is now home to a modern society, and has an exciting, cosmopolitan feel. Its fine hotels and restaurants offer delectable cuisine and entertainment. Cairo is truly a city which never sleeps.

Places of interest:
  • The Great Pyramids of Giza are the only monuments which remain of the original Seven Wonders of the World.
  • Saqqara is home to the Step Pyramid of King Zoser.
  • The Egyptian Museum is situated in the centre of Cairo, and houses the world's finest collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts. A visit to the Mummy Room is a must.
  • The Coptic Museum and the Church of the Virgin Mary
