|
is Egypt's second largest city, and it is known as ' the bride of the sea'.
Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, it offers an opportunity for some cultural
sightseeing in a delightful climate.
There are many Graeco-Roman and Ptolemy era monuments in this area. Further to
the west, en route to Libya, are the white sands and turquoise waters of Mersa
Matrouh, where Cleopatra is said to have bathed.
Places of interest:

precious and ancient manuscripts. It was constructed in recent years on the
site of the original Library , which was destroyed by a great fire in 400 A.D.

first constructed by the Mameluke Sultan Quait Bey.
